Shoal an Improv Quilt with Nicholas Ball on Saturday 2nd July 2022 - 10am to 4pm
With a passion for improv quilting, Nicholas' aesthetic is an organic one, preferring to sew without the use of patterns or templates. He takes a lot of inspiration from the natural world.
Join experienced improv quilter Nicholas Ball to learn his Shoal quilt technique. "My grandmother taught me the rudimentary shapes of many creatures, which I'd practice over and over: cats, snakes, fish. It was that naive interpretation that inspired this quilt. This simplistic version of a shoal of fish reminds me of my childhood and the simple line drawings that occupied me for hours.
During the class, you'll learn to sew in an organic way through his triangle, curves and insert techniques. You'll then learn how to mix and match these quick and easy units in all manner of ways.
This is a class perfect for beginners and those who have approached improv before. The class will show you how a liberated approach to sewing will open up a world of creative possibilities.
He has taught improv quilting both nationally and internationally, contributed to the UK leading quilting magazines and was a co-presenter of the QNNTV show ‘Quilt Monkey’, alongside fellow UK quilter Katy Jones. His debut book ‘Inspiring Improv’ was published in April 2019 by Lucky Spool and his second book Use & Ornament is scheduled for publication in July.

Worldwide
Postage to other countries costs £3.29 for smaller items and £5.49 for larger ones. Delivery can take up to three weeks, depending on destination.
